Political Aphasia Funnies
Here's an old comic strip of mine I ran across, I drew it I'd guess back in the late 80s:
* "guywires" = "talking heads," more or less (slang term my brother and I came up with)

Yeah, I must've drawn this comic not too long after I arrived at Duke. In those days I was living in the midst of that kind of talk.
Course, if I'd really wanted to put in something wild, I could've included, I dunno, maybe an academic at a university in South Africa (former "New Republic" region) who would be teaching, say, a course on Noam Chomsky... ;-)
Well, I can, uh...imagine--seeing a photo of such a professor (say, at an imaginary homepage of his) and he looks so typical, what happens when a hundred of those guys get together and they all looks alike with the same trim white fur around their gobs and bald areas on top and those borderline smirks and 20th-Century newscaster voices with professorial pronunciations, what kind of comicbook would that make? I like your professors better, especially the second one with those hang-dog eye-pouches, the frozen sorry squint beneath the frozen temple creases, I mean, what has he been doing? And there he sits muttering honorary exclamations "Nn-hn, how true! Nn-hn, how true!" as he and his pal take turns ratcheting up their shared program.
Say, is that supposed to be Leonard Nimoy on the TV in the second drawing?
Oh, the narrator says "Ted Koppel"...sorry!
Ya know, I've never noticed the amazing resemblance between Koppel and Nimoy before! Thats kinda creepy.
Creeps me out, all right. And Paul's gone silent.
Yeah, I'm here all right. Just been taking a nap most of the afternoon, seeing as I've got no work for the rest of the weekend. Thanks to that monster winter storm which is hitting much of the Midwest! Yes, both St. John's and Mt. Hope have canceled for tomorrow.
So I've just been napping and staying indoors. Haven't even been out to the mailbox today, it looks nasty out there.
